Caregiver Support

The Family Caregiver Support Program established in the reauthorized Older Americans Act, Title III, Part E called for the Area Agencies on Aging to create a Family Caregiver Support Program.

Deborah Lewis is the Family Caregiver Support Advocate for the Catawba Area Agency on Aging. Deborah is currently a caregiver herself, as well as a licensed social worker. Our caregiver program is called CATAWBA CAREGIVER ACCESS. Our program continues to develop systems of support and partnerships to assist caregivers in each of the four counties served by the Catawba Area Agency on Aging. Our Agency serves Chester, Lancaster, York, and Union Counties.

A Family Caregiver Advisory Committee has been established and members have been identified. We have developed a comprehensive and coordinated system of services and resources available to and for Caregivers in each of the counties. The Advisory Committee Members are care givers themselves and bring insight into the needs and problems care givers face daily. The focus of the Advisory Committee is to provide our program with the knowledge, skill and practical information they have acquired through their experience of care giving, so we may better assist and support care givers.

The Catawba Area Agency on Aging have been designated to develop partnerships, and resources, identify and support critical needs, while expanding successful services, and evaluating programs to guide their future direction.

The Catawba Care Giver Access program is designed to help and assist care givers providing care for two care giving groups:

  1. Persons 60 or older
  2. Persons 55 or older raising a relatives child 18 years or younger
